How to apply to study in Spain

1. Understand the Spain route

Students apply to the institution. Public-university bachelor's places are allocated by admission grade through regional pre-registration (preinscripción) calls with fixed windows, which for a September start usually fall in early summer, so UNEDasiss accreditation or the homologación application has to be under way before then. Private universities and business schools usually run their own admission rounds. Keep document legalisation and sworn translation in view, because the student visa depends on the admission letter.

A typical order of steps for a September start

Dates change every year and differ between regions, universities and programmes, so treat this as an order of steps rather than a calendar.

• Autumn to winter: shortlist programmes and check the teaching language and the access route that applies to you.
• Winter to spring: start homologación or UNEDasiss accreditation, and register for the PCE exams if your target programmes weigh them.
• Late spring to summer: submit the regional pre-registration for public bachelor's places, and apply to private universities, which often admit in several rounds.
• Once admitted: pay the reservation or enrolment fee the institution asks for, then apply for the student visa with the admission letter.
• On arrival: complete enrolment, register on the padrón and apply for your TIE.

2. Prepare and confirm

Check the institution's current deadline and document requirements. Programme rules take precedence over general guidance.

3. Continue to the portal

The Apply button opens the central SIT Connect student portal with studyatspain, studyatspain.com and the selected programme attached. SIT Connect then confirms the correct official submission route.
