Funding routes in Spain
Funding comes mainly from institutional scholarships and discounts. Spanish government awards for foreign students are limited: MAEC-AECID calls target specific nationalities and profiles, the Fundación Carolina funds students from Latin America, and the Ministry of Education's general grants are generally tied to residence in Spain. Erasmus+ supports exchange and joint master's students. Coverage, renewal conditions and deadlines differ, so treat only a current written award as confirmation.
Where to look
- Your university or school: merit and need-based scholarships, early-enrolment discounts and tuition waivers.
- MAEC-AECID: Spanish government calls for specific nationalities and profiles, published by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation.
- Fundación Carolina: postgraduate scholarships for students from Latin America.
- Erasmus+: exchange grants and Erasmus Mundus joint master's scholarships.
- Your own government: some countries fund study in Spain through their own programmes or bilateral agreements.
Read the coverage carefully
An award may cover all or part of tuition and may not include living costs, travel, insurance or residence fees.
Never assume availability
Funding rounds and eligibility change independently of admission. Only a current written award should be treated as confirmation.
